Workshops to explore rain gardens, succulents

Two upcoming workshops at the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens will focus on “Rain Gardens” and “Cacti and Succulents.”

Scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 28, “Rain Gardens” will cover the why, what and how of this type of garden as a solution to urban and suburban runoff challenges.

Wetland scientist Rich Mogensen will deliver an overview of the siting, design, construction and maintenance of residential rain gardens as well as how to assess if one’s landscape would benefit from one. The class will include a visit to a residential private rain garden in Charlotte.

SucculentsOn Sunday, April 29, Valentina Lucena, owner of Living Décor, will talk about cacti and succulents. During this two-hour course, from 2 to 4 p.m., attendees will learn growth habits of a variety of succulents and cacti and get their hands dirty while learning the three key elements to create a beautiful succulent arrangement.

The cost is $35 for stewards of the Botanical Gardens, $40 for non-members. Register online.
