Campus safety focus of Inside UNC Charlotte webcast

Wednesday, March 14, 2018

Chief of Police and Public Safety Jeff Baker, Dean of Students Christine Reed Davis and SGA President Tracey Allsbrook talk about campus safety in this Inside UNC Charlotte webcast.

“Thank you to the UNC Charlotte community for opening yesterday's email and submitting so many great questions for today's campus safety webcast on Inside UNC Charlotte,” said Stephen Ward, executive director of University Communications. “Those questions - 133 in all - guided the discussion with Student Government Association President Tracey Allsbrook, Dean of Students Christine Davis and Police Chief Jeff Baker.”

During the webcast, Baker, Davis and Allsbrook discussed the extensive safety measures taken by the University’s Police and Public Safety Department (PPS); tips for personal safety; and resources available to students, faculty and staff.

UNC Charlotte’s police department, which is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc., is a fully authorized state police agency. The department collaborates regularly with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and other regional law enforcement agencies.

University police patrol campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and the University has more than 300 emergency blue light phones throughout campus for anyone who needs police assistance. Members of the campus community are encouraged to download the LiveSafe App, which provides a direct connection to PPS dispatch.

With the advent of light rail, UNC Charlotte has invested in additional safety measures, including new lighting, security cameras and additional police officers.
