Symposium to focus on ‘Black Studies in the Carolinas’

The Department of Africana Studies will host the two-day symposium “UNC Charlotte at the Intersection of Black Studies in the Carolinas” on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 22-23, in the Cone University Center.

This free, public event will showcase the scholarship, teaching, learning and advocacy efforts of UNC Charlotte faculty members and students regarding black studies and black lives in local and global settings.  

Organizers plan to feature more than 55 speakers as part of panel and roundtable discussions, including “The Black Quest for Freedom and Citizenship,” “Africa in Politics and Imagination” and “Examining the African Diaspora: New Research by UNC Charlotte Scholars.”

The symposium also will include a poster session, film screening/discussion and poetry reading.
