Prior to winter break, the University Advancement Division’s Community Relations Department sponsored a book drive to benefit Nathaniel Alexander Elementary, a Governor’s Village School. In the two weeks prior to holiday break, more than 400 books were collected for children in grades kindergarten through five.
Debbie Smith is now associate director of the Office of Adult Student and Evening Services (OASES).
Smith joined OASES, which is part of enrollment management, in 2008 as assistant director and advisor. OASES personnel support the University’s enrollment and graduation goals by assisting in the recruitment and retention of adult students.
Manuel Sager, ambassador of Switzerland to the United States, will give a talk at 3:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27, in the College of Health and Human Services, Room 128, as part of the sixth annual International Speaker Series.

Textile and fiber artist Janet Lasher will display “New Works: Figurative Sculptures in Paper” in the Student Union Art Gallery through Friday, Jan. 31. It features handmade cast paper sculptures.
Members of the UNC Charlotte community will perform in the Office of Women’s Programs’ production of “The Vagina Monologues” scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 30, through Saturday, Feb. 1, in Cone University Center, McKnight Hall. Performances will be at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday with a 1 p.m. show on Saturday.
