Commencement is a time to celebrate the many accomplishments of UNC Charlotte graduates as they embark upon their careers or advanced studies.

UNC Charlotte will hold two ceremonies on Saturday, Dec. 16, to bestow degrees upon more than 3,600 bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral candidates. These graduates will join the ranks of 130,000 UNC Charlotte alumni, and they will forever be 49ers.

In addition, the University will present an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters to Julius Weinberg, chair of England’s Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (Ofsted), and former vice chancellor and president of Kingston University London. Ofsted is responsible for inspecting a range of educational institutions, including state schools and some independent schools. It also inspects childcare, adoption and fostering agencies and initial teacher training and regulates a range of children’s social care services.

UNC Charlotte and Kingston University London have a longstanding international exchange partnership that has existed for more than 30 years. Under Weinberg’s leadership, this collaboration between institutions flourished to include a more robust faculty/staff exchange, increased short-term programs and added numerous creative projects designed to advance the combined institutional missions to prepare students to better navigate a more diverse workplace.

Commencement exercises will be held in Halton Arena, located in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

At 10 a.m., students from the College of Arts + Architecture, Belk College of Business, College of Computing and Informatics, William States Lee College of Engineering, College of Health and Human Services and the Graduate School will receive degrees. The awarding of the honorary degree will occur at this ceremony, too.

The Cato College of Education, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and the Graduate School will confer degrees at 3 p.m.

The Office of University Communications will stream both ceremonies on the web.
