Statement from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services on Upcoming Road Closure

Mary Alexander Rd. closed for approximately three months beginning May 16, 2017

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services is ready to begin construction. City Council awarded United of Carolinas, Inc. the construction contract and is scheduled to start mid-May. Construction is estimated to take three months. Mary Alexander will be closed to through traffic beginning May 16. The contractor will maintain access to the neighborhood. Temporary construction traffic signage will direct motorists around the construction work zones. Please follow the detour signs.

The goal is to minimize the impact of any construction. The designers of this project have taken great care to develop a construction plan that will minimize inconveniences to you. However, the very nature of this work often makes it necessary to temporarily reduce or detour traffic flow and close streets.

This kind of work uses heavy construction vehicles, including dump trucks, concrete trucks and earthmoving and trenching equipment, all of which are quite loud during operations. The contractor may keep equipment within the work area for the duration of the project.

If it is necessary to maintain an open hole or trench, the contractor is required to make the area safe with fences, barricades or other methods.
