Bookstore author event to feature DIY couple

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

Sherry and John Petersik, authors of the New York Times bestselling book “Young House Love,” will be on campus at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Barnes & Noble at UNC Charlotte in the Student Union.

The young, married couple are not construction experts, but “just two happy homeowners who love to learn as we go and share our adventures (and misadventures) with the world.” Their book is a compilation of hundreds of how-to tips and ideas from their blog.

The Petersiks started with a first home in need of renovation. They didn't have much money, but they did possess a little bit of know-how and a lot of enthusiasm. During the course of four years, the couple turned a tired, outdated house into a fun, fresh, fantastic-looking home.

"We’ve tackled our fair share of projects and gathered a slew of our most popular tips and tutorials," wrote Sherry Petersik. "From cabinet painting and drain unclogging to making your own art on the cheap, here’s what worked for us along the way."

The Petersik's tips and projects have been featured on HGTV and the Nate Berkus Show and on do-it-yourself (DIY) sites like the Nest, Design Happens and Real Simple.

During their campus visit, the couple will share their experience as "one young family + one old house = love." Books will be on sale for them to autograph.
