As part of Homecoming, the Staff Council is sponsoring a decorating contest, a chili cook-off and a scavenger hunt.
The decorating contest is open to individual faculty and staff members or offices. Participants will be judged on their theme and originality; remember to use the University colors.
Winners will be selected for Best Office and Best Individual decorations. The deadline to register is Friday, Jan. 18. Judging will be Friday, Jan. 25; participants should leave their decorations up through Saturday, Feb. 2.
The fifth annual Niner Chili Cook-off will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 31, in the Cone University Center, Lucas Room. Entries will be evaluated on taste, consistency and creativity. The deadline to enter the cook-off is Friday, Jan. 25.
In preparation for the Staff Council’s participation in the annual “Have a Heart Campaign” during February, chili cook-off attendees are encouraged to bring canned goods to benefit Loaves and Fishes. Employees who bring donations will be eligible to win a prize. During the “Have a Heart Campaign,” the 17 UNC campuses and other system units collect canned goods and toiletries to benefit organizations in their respective communities.
The Staff Council Homecoming Scavenger Hunt is an event for teams comprised of up to five members. Participants will compete to locate items based upon clues provided by the Staff Council that relate to the University or Homecoming. At least one team member must be pictured with each scavenger item. Once all clues have been solved, team captains can submit their results in print or via email. The Scavenger Hunt will start on Monday, Jan. 28, and will end at 1 p.m., Jan. 30. The winners will be announced during the Niner Chili Cook-off; each team (or at least one team member) must be present in case of a tiebreaker.
