Accolades for UNC Charlotte’s Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) continue; this time in the form of the “Excellence in Construction Eagle Award” given by the Associated Builders and Contractors of the Carolinas. Turner Construction, hired and managed by UNC Charlotte's Facilities Management Department, was presented the honor.

Held annually, ABC Carolina’s Awards of Excellence Program has become the premier competition within the construction industry that recognizes outstanding construction projects across the Carolinas, according to the American Builders and Construction Association. Recognizing innovation, quality and vision of a winning project’s construction team, the criteria include: safety, personnel management, quality control, scheduling and degree of difficulty in completing a project.

EPIC received the top honor in the “School – over $50 million” category.

UNC Charlotte facilities management’s capital projects team, which included Jennifer Evans, construction manager; John Neilson, associate director of capital construction; and John Fessler, director of capital projects; managed and supervised EPIC's construction.

“It was a good night and good recognition for UNC Charlotte,” said Phil Jones, associate vice chancellor of facilities management.
