Education professor receives national award

Lee Sherry, associate professor and chair of the Department of Special Education and Child Development in the College of Education, received the 2012 Distinguished Service Award from the national Teacher Education Division of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). The award is given to an individual who has an exemplary service record in advancing the development and improvement of teacher education in special education. He will be honored formally in April at the national CEC conference in San Antonio. Sherry joined UNC Charlotte in 2007.

The Teacher Education Division is one of 17 special interest groups of the Council for Exceptional Children, the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, including students with disabilities and those identified as gifted. The organization works on behalf of special education teachers.
