UNC Charlotte ‘ignites change’ at ACUI regional conference

Monday, November 26, 2012

Earlier this month, four student affairs staff members and eight students represented UNC Charlotte at the fall conference of the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Region 5.

Three of the attendees conducted presentations in support of the conference theme “Igniting Change: Developing Leaders and Building Community.”

James Contratto, assistant director of student activities for evening and weekend programming, delivered the presentation “There’s Nothing Weak about Weekend Programs;” Judith Rowles, assistant director of student activities for student organizations presented “Working with Student Organizations Technologically” and “How to Present an Educational Session;” and Bianca Lambert, Campus Activities Board member discussed “Foundations of Relatedness Exercises: Icebreakers.”

During the conference, UNC Charlotte’s student union, activities and recreation (SUAR) marketing team was recognized for several submissions by staff designer Brittany Davis, including the 2012 homecoming poster, the graphics for the Student Union movie theater, the Venture events calendar and Brantley Gilbert concert promotion. Davis took home eight awards in total.

“The ACUI regional conference is a great opportunity for staff to engage with students in the work we do,” said Rowles. “ACUI is a robust organization, and UNC Charlotte is part of a strong region within the association. After each conference, we come back with unique and creative concepts and designs to enhance both our facilities and programs.”

Founded in 1914, ACUI is a nonprofit educational organization that brings together college union and student activities professionals.
