Faculty/staff donate nearly $150,000 to Giving Green

The fall fundraising period for Giving Green recently concluded with $148,520 in donations to the campaign’s three beneficiaries – Arts & Science Council, State Employees Combined Campaign and the UNC Charlotte Foundation.

“We want to thank everyone who participated in this year’s campaign. The 615 faculty and staff members who donated represent roughly 20 percent of our employees; this was a significant increase over last year’s participation rate,” said Tina McEntire, one of 2012 co-chairs for Giving Green.

Fellow campaign co-chair Dustin Read noted total dollars to Giving Green also increased nearly $40,000 over 2011. “This was a strong showing of support by University employees. In addition to the donors, we’d like to thank our team of divisional champions who helped us to raise awareness of the campaign in their own units. Being part of a community is a shared responsibility for one another; through Giving Green, we can take pride in our local efforts to care for our neighbors in the greater Charlotte region. Working together, we are making a difference.”

The Giving Green fall fundraising campaign kicked off Oct. 4 with a special luncheon. Throughout the five-week effort, a number of incentives were offered to encourage participation. The final raffle featured $250 gift cards from U.S. Airways; Alan Rauch, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, and Susan Harden, College of Education, won these prizes.

Stacie Young, who helped organize this year’s Giving Green campaign, expressed her appreciation to the campaign co-chairs, the divisional champions and her University Advancement Division colleagues who provided assistance. “It definitely takes many hands to organize and operate the campaign, but it’s all worthwhile when you hear from the beneficiaries on how our contributions are assisting our friends and neighbors. Starting last year, the annual solicitation period for Giving Green was consolidated to the fall, but we know our faculty, staff and students display the Giving Green spirit throughout the year. We welcome your stories or photos on how you are staking your claim to the greater Charlotte region. Send them to givinggreen@uncc.edu.”
