Economist columnist to lecture as part of International Speaker Series

Philip Coggan, a columnist with Economist, will speak at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the Atkins Library, Dale Halton Reading Room.

In this free, public presentation, Coggan will discuss topics from this book “Paper Promises: Money, Debt and the New World Order.” Before the Economist, Coggan founded the column “Short View” and wrote the “Long View” and “Last Word” columns during a 20-year tenure with Financial Times.

Coggan’s talk is part of the International Speaker Series, presented by the Office of International Programs, in collaboration with the World Affairs Council of Charlotte; the Department of Global, International and Area Studies; and the J. Murrey Atkins Library.

Two other talks will be held during the fall semester as part of the series. Brig. Gen. Thomas Gorry will will deliver a presentation on Thursday, Nov. 8, and Carlos Flores, consul general of Mexico, will speak on Friday, Nov. 16.
