Career Center to hold annual Majors Day

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

All University academic departments are invited to attend the Career Center’s annual Majors Day Fair, scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24, in the Cone University Center, Lucas Room.

Officials noted in recent years, 100 percent of the University’s undergraduate programs have been represented at the fair, and the goal is the same for 2012.

Departments can register online at the Career Center website; click on “Majors Day” under “Featured Events.” Faculty or student representatives can be designated to speak to fair attendees about majors/minors in their department.

Majors Day draws nearly 500 undeclared students or those who to change majors, as well as students interested in different academic options. Department participation in the fair makes a difference, officials stated. For example:

  • 82 percent of students who attended Majors Day 2011 indicated an increase in their motivation toward career planning and decision-making
  • 80 percent of freshmen who attended Majors Day fall 2010 were re-enrolled at UNC Charlotte for fall 2011

Faculty members are encouraged to announce Majors Day in their classes and invite students to attend. Offered only once a year, this event presents a convenient, one-stop opportunity for students to learn about the academic majors, minors and concentrations offered at UNC Charlotte. Academic advisors and career advisors will be available to assist with the process of changing or declaring a major and exploring career options.
