Volunteer opportunities part of Giving Green Campaign

Tuesday, October 9, 2012

Faculty and staff members can support the campus-wide Giving Green Campaign financially or by donating their time through the campaign’s Volunteer Week, scheduled for Monday Oct. 15, through Friday, Oct. 19.

All permanent employees receive 24 hours of annual community leave, and Giving Green Volunteer Week is a great way to stake your claim to help out some of the wonderful nonprofit organizations in the greater Charlotte region, said Tina McEntire, co-chair of the Giving Green Campaign.

“The projects involve two or three hour commitments and some are in the morning and others in the afternoon,” McEntire explained. “There’s even one being held conveniently on campus, so you don’t have far to travel to volunteer.”

Faculty and staff members can support Second Harvest Food Bank, the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte, Classroom Central, the Carolina Raptor Center and Crisis Assistance Ministry,  and volunteers will  work alongside members of the Chancellor’s Cabinet - Betty Doster, special assistant to the chancellor for constituent relations; Judy Rose, director of intercollegiate athletics; Niles Sorensen, vice chancellor for advancement; Michael Cato, vice chancellor for information technology and chief information officer; and Beth Hardin, vice chancellor for business affairs.
