The Department of Music will present its second “Spotlight” recital at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28, in the Belk Theater of the Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts. This event celebrates the achievements of the department’s students and generates funds for music scholarships.
This year’s “Spotlight” honors UNC Charlotte alumna Meredith Butterworth. A percussionist and composer, Butterworth entered a graduate program in music theory and composition at New York University this fall. An ensemble featuring violin, viola, two saxophones, bass and percussion will perform her composition “Vermilion.”
The concert will open with a stirring bagpipe “Prelude.” Other program pieces will feature solo piano and guitar performances and a variety of ensembles, including an aria from Bach’s “Magnificat,” a scene from Puccini’s “La Bohème” and a section of a trio for horn, violin and piano by Johannes Brahms.
