Tabor to discuss Israel, U.S. for Great Decisions lecture series

Wednesday, February 5, 2014

James Tabor, professor and chair of religious studies, will discuss the relationship between Israel and the United States at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12, at UNC Charlotte Center City, Room 204, as the fourth speaker in the 2014 Great Decisions lecture series.

The author of six books and more than 50 articles, Tabor is frequently consulted by media for comment on topics relevant to his research interests, which include the relationships of Judaism, Christianity and Greco-Roman religions in the Hellenistic period; the New Testament; and the Dead Sea Scrolls. For the Great Decisions discussion, Tabor will focus on the ways in which religious traditions in the United States and “on the ground" in Israel influence relations between the two.

On Feb. 19, the Great Decisions talk will feature Johan Enslin, director of the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) and Duke Energy Distinguished Chair of Power System Engineering. Prior to that presentation, there will be a reception beginning at 5 p.m. as part of Engineers Week sponsored by the Lee College of Engineering and in honor of Enslin’s recent recognition as a 2014 Energy Leadership Award honoree by the Charlotte Business Journal.

Cheryl Brown, associate professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, will discuss China’s foreign policy on Feb. 26 as the concluding speaker in the series.

The Office of International Programs coordinates the annual Great Decisions lecture series for the Charlotte community to present foreign policy issues selected as pressing by the Foreign Policy Association. The series is coordinated in collaboration with Charlotte Country Day School and the World Affairs Council of Charlotte.
