Thursday, August 15, 2013

UNC Charlotte alums and North Carolina representatives Mike Hager and Jason Saine recently visited the University to celebrate the completion of the Golden LEAF Rural Broadband Initiative (GLRBI) by MCNC (Microelectronics Center of North Carolina). The initiative was established to enhance broadband infrastructure for North Carolina’s research, education nonprofit, health care and other community institutions and to attract industry to the state.

During their visit, the representatives, two of nine UNC Charlotte alumni in the General Assembly, met with Chancellor Philip L. Dubois. Hager (R-Rutherford) is a 1987 graduate with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, and Saine (R-Lincoln) earned an undergraduate degree in political science in 1995.

UNC Charlotte was one of several sites selected by MCNC to host statewide ceremonies to celebrate the GLRBI’s completion.
