Mikel Hunter was named a graduate assistant coach for the Charlotte 49ers 2014 football season.

A recent UNC Charlotte graduate, Hunter started all 11 games of the 49ers 2013 season, and he was one of the Charlotte 49ers leading receivers for the team's first year.  Selected as a team captain for the inaugural game, Hunter had 45 receptions for 551 yards with two TD catches last season.  His 53-yard TD reception in the 49ers win at Presbyterian is the 49ers longest.  He also had a 96-yard kickoff return for a TD against Chowan, another 49ers record.  He led the 49ers in return yardage for both punts and kickoffs and topped the 49ers with 1138 all-purpose yards.

Hunter becomes the first 49ers football alumnus to earn a collegiate coaching position with the 49ers. He completed a bachelor’s degree in history in December 2013.
