UNC Charlotte students interested in solving community social problems are invited to form teams to compete at the 2015 University of North Carolina Social Entrepreneurship Conference.

The Apostle Paul is the single most influential figure in human history, suggests UNC Charlotte Religious Studies Professor James Tabor in his latest book “Paul and Jesus How the Apostle Transformed Christianity.” Tabor argues that Paul’s influence trumps even the great “founders,” whether Jesus, Moses, the Buddha or Mohammed.

The Office of Parent and Family Services and the Alumni Association invite Niner Nation family members to the 2014 Fall Family Festival on Saturday, Nov. 15.

Steven Rogelberg, professor and director of UNC Charlotte’s Organizational Science program, will be the inaugural speaker for the UNC Charlotte Alumni Association’s Bonnie Cone Faculty Speaker Series “Nuggets of Knowledge.” 

Ventriloquist Lynn Trefzger will perform at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 6, in the Student Union. This free, public event is sponsored by the Campus Activities Board.

The Charlotte 49ers Basketball Madness event starts at 9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 23, in Halton Arena. This annual celebration kicks off the basketball season, with fans getting the chance to meet the 2014-15 men’s and women’s squads. In addition, there will be skits and activities, dunking contests and more.

Higher education is critical to the growth of urban areas, such as Charlotte, and how the University has instituted a number of programs and services to support the region’s growing Hispanic population were key points Chancellor Philip L. Dubois stressed as UNC Charlotte hosted an on-campus meeting of the Latin American Chamber of Commerce Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Christopher Poulos, associate professor and chair of the Department of Communication Studies at UNC Greensboro, will present “Writing a Bridge to Possibility: Life, Death and the Redemptive Power of Autoethnography” at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 28, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center Salons.

The Charlotte 49ers will play at the University of Kentucky, a member of the Southeastern Conference, during the 2015 season, which will be the team’s first as a member of the Football Bowl Subdivision. The game is slated for Nov. 21, 2015.

William Brandon, the Metrolina Medical Foundation Distinguished Professor of Public Policy in Health at UNC Charlotte, will be among the panelists for “Healthcare for All – Can We Make it Happen?" This discussion will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 26, at Myers Park Baptist Church, 1900 Queens Rd.

Mario Röllig spent three months in East Berlin’s Hohenschönhausen Prison in 1987 for trying to flee communist East Germany. He will tell his story at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 9, at UNC Charlotte Center City, during an afternoon of public activities to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.  

The College of Arts + Architecture will open the exhibit “ICARUS: An Exploration of the Human Urge to Fly” Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Projective Eye Gallery in UNC Charlotte Center City.
