Campus beautification initiative relaunches

UNC Charlotte’s Adopt-A-Spot program has been reestablished through efforts by members of the Kappa Kappa Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., who identified a campus location to adopt and submitted an application for funding from the Charlotte Green Initiative with assistance from the Sustainability Office.

Purdue University’s Fatma Mili named dean of the College of Computing and Informatics

Fatma Mili will join UNC Charlotte as dean of the College of Computing and Informatics beginning Aug. 1. She comes to the University from Purdue University, where she is the founder and director of the TransSTEM (Center for Trans-institutional Capacity Building and Educational Equity in STEM) at the Purdue Discovery Park. She also is a professor of computer and information technology.


Kent State administrator appointed associate vice chancellor for finance

Anne Brown is UNC Charlotte’s new associate vice chancellor for finance. She will assume her duties in early summer.

Brown currently serves as the associate vice president for business and administration services at Kent State University, where she is responsible for the Bursar’s Office, payroll, procurement and mail services.

CATS energizes Blue Line Extension’s overhead electrical system

Construction crews working on the LYNX Blue Line Extension, the 9.3-mile extension to Charlotte’s current light rail system, have energized the overhead catenary system (OCS) throughout the entire alignment up to UNC Charlotte. The OCS provides electricity that powers light rail vehicles through a pantograph at the top of the vehicle.  The system carries 750 volts, direct current.&nbs
