On Tuesday, Oct. 3, the Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHS) will host mass training in the use of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Classes will be in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center, with three sessions offered at 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Registration is required as space is limited. Sign up by Friday, Sept. 29.
This is the fourth year that EHS has partnered with MEDIC to offer mass CPR training in an effort to increase bystander awareness and provide training to assist individuals who may experience Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Every minute proper CPR is delayed, a victim’s chance of survival decreases by 10 percent.
MEDIC paramedics and Charlotte Fire Department personnel will teach proper hand placement and how to perform compressions on a CPR manikin. In addition to the hands-only CPR training, they will review the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). The University has multiple AEDs located across campus, and this is a great opportunity to learn their use in the case of an emergency.
October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month, and EHS official note that Sudden Cardiac Arrest can happen anywhere and at any time.
This combined training is intended to increase the number of people on campus who know how to save a life in the event of a cardiac arrest. Participants will learn the importance of quick action when someone is experiencing cardiac arrest and will have the opportunity to ask questions.
