Faculty & Friends Series to present Mirasol Saxophone Quartet

Monday, August 28, 2017

The Department of Music Faculty & Friends Concert Series will present the Mirasol Saxophone Quartet in a performance on Tuesday, Sept. 5, in Rowe Recital Hall.

Widely acclaimed for performances across the country, the Mirasol Quartet has established an active presence in the chamber music scene. The quartet was awarded the Gold Medal in the Senior Wind Division at the 2015 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the Grand Prize in the 2015-16 ENKOR Chamber Music Competition and the 2016 American Prize in Chamber Ensemble Performance.

Mirasol draws its name and musical inspiration from the intensity of the west Texas sun. Formed in 2013 at Texas Tech University, the quartet consists of saxophonists James Barger, Andrew Reinhart, Ben Donnell and Ben Still, a UNC Charlotte alumnus who is serving as a visiting faculty member this fall.

A student of Will Campbell, Still received a Bachelor of Music from UNC Charlotte in 2013, graduating summa cum laude. He completed a Master of Music at Texas Tech University in 2015 and is slated to finish a Doctor of Musical Arts this year.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m., with a reception following the performance. Tickets are $10 and $8 for UNC Charlotte faculty, staff, alumni and students.
