UNC Charlotte’s newest residence hall, Levine Hall, was dedicated during a campus ceremony, Thursday, April 13.
Located near the main entrance to campus, Levine Hall houses more than 400 students in the Levine Scholars Program and the Honors College, as well as the administrative offices for both programs. Levine Hall is named after Sandra and Leon Levine, two of the Charlotte region’s most generous philanthropists and two of UNC Charlotte’s biggest supporters.
"Levine Hall is named for two very special friends of the University who continuously support UNC Charlotte's role as a leading university of the 21st century," said Chancellor Philip L. Dubois. "Like Sandra and Leon Levine, the top scholars who reside in Levine Hall enrich this campus and inspire us all to achieve more. They take their talent into the greater community and help make the Charlotte region a better place."
Through their foundation, the Levines have committed more than $18 million to UNC Charlotte’s Levine Scholars Program, which began in 2009. In addition to living and office space, Levine Hall includes work-study areas, faculty work stations, private one-on-one and seminar spaces, as well as “hotel” accommodations for visiting faculty or lecturers.
“We were honored when we learned that the new facility being built to house the Levine Scholars and the University’s honor students would bear our name,” said Leon Levine. “We are even more excited today, as we actually get to see the Levine Scholars in their new home.”
