Fundraisers to support Ketie Jones Memorial Art Award

Monday, April 3, 2017

The Ketie Memory Jones Memorial Art Award is one of seven initiatives seeking financial support this spring through Crowdfund UNC Charlotte, an online platform through the Division of University Advancement that assists members of Niner Nation to fund unique opportunities.

In honor of Jones’ memory, her passion for the arts and her love for Charlotte and its community, her family and friends have decided to create an endowed scholarship at UNC Charlotte in the arts for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools students with financial need.

Jones had a passion for creativity of all kinds. Apart from studying theatre design in New York City, she enjoyed acting, singing, drawing, crafting and more. Jones returned from the "Big Apple" and fell in love with Charlotte and the Plaza Midwood neighborhood, becoming integral in the fabric of the community. She was killed Oct. 15, 2016.

A series of fundraising events are taking place this week, with proceeds benefiting the Ketie Memory Jones Memorial Arts Award:

  • April 4 – Midwood Smokehouse: $1 from every Burnt End’s Classic BBQ Plate will be donated to the Ketie Memory Jones Memorial Arts Award.
  • April 5 – Snug Harbor: a raffle will be held during the April Residency: Green Fiend show.
  • April 6 – The Common Market: $3 draft special with proceeds going to the Jones Memorial Arts Award.
  • April 4-9 – Letty’s on Shamrock: special wine features with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Jones Memorial Arts Award.

Other  UNC Charlotte Crowdfund projects for spring 2017 include: “Habitat for Humanity El Salvador,” “Astrobotics Competition,” “Intercollegiate Mediation Tournament,” “Costa Rica Language and Culture Trip,” “Baseball Scholarship” and the “R. Bernard Reeves Scholarship.”
