UNCW professor to discuss Atlantic Coast energy debate

Roger Shew from UNC Wilmington will present “The Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf Energy ‘Debate’” at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 14, in EPIC, Room G256, as part of the EPIC Energy Seminar Series.

Shew, a faculty member in the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences, worked in the energy industry with Shell Oil Company for 20 years in New Orleans and Houston. He later returned home to Wilmington, where part-time teaching evolved into a full-time position with UNCW. His teaching focuses on geoscience education; resource geology, including energy and water; coastal processes; sustainability; and natural history of the Coastal Plain.

He completed a bachelor’s degree from UNCW; he earned a master’s degree in geology from UNC Chapel Hill and completed a master’s in science education from the University of Houston.
