Dance residencies to culminate in special performances

Wednesday, January 18, 2017

The Department of Dance will host two special residencies during the week of Jan. 29, culminating in performances on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4.

AGA Collaborative, a three-member dance group that includes UNC Charlotte Associate Professor of Dance Gretchen Alterowitz, Alison Bory and Amanda Hamp, will collaborate with students to create a new dance work “Anthem for a Porcelain Generation,” which the students will perform for the Spring Dance Concert in April.

Other residency activities include a public workshop on collaborative artistic methods, a lecture about AGA’s creative process by Department of Theatre dramaturg Jeanmarie Higgins and two performances of the evening-length “win. place. show.” at 5 and 7:30 p.m., Feb. 3. Higgins’ talk will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Choir Room (Robinson Hall, Room 145). Tickets are $10 for general audience and $8 for faculty, staff and students.

At 7:30 p.m., Feb. 4, the Department of Dance will present its first-ever Alumni Concert, an opportunity to showcase original choreography by five alumni, who are now dance educators, arts administrators and independent artists working across the South. During their residencies on campus, beginning Jan.30, Audrey Baran, Ali Duffy, Madeline Jazz Harvey, Caitlyn Swett and Melissa Word will teach master classes to current students and participate in a career panel discussion. The culminating concert features seven works performed by the alumni and guest artists. There is no charge to attend this event.

All performances will take place in Robinson Hall, Room 118.
