The Charlotte chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) recently presented its Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser Award to Gene Johnson, a member of the Class of 1973 and chair of EXPONENTIAL: The Campaign for UNC Charlotte.

According to the AFP, the Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser Award recognizes a person who provides exceptional leadership in coordinating fundraising projects or activities for a charitable organization or cause, with a preference for community work that has direct impact on the Charlotte/Metrolina region. The recipient must demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and the ability to motivate volunteers. By giving generously of his/her time and talents, this person makes a measurable impact on community philanthropy.

“Johnson actively takes the initiative because he cares about Charlotte and its future. This means supporting the organizations that make the Queen City what she is today, including helping to transform UNC Charlotte into one of the best universities in the state,” said Beth Fischer, executive director of University development in the Division of University Advancement.

Katherine Lambert, the current president of AFP Charlotte, presented Johnson the award in conjunction with National Philanthropy Day. The chapter recognized a number of individuals and businesses for their philanthropic efforts that impact virtually every corner of the Queen City.

UNC Charlotte nominated Johnson for the Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser Award.
