University Career Center to hold job fair, majors exploration event

Friday, September 30, 2016

UNC Charlotte students have the opportunity to meet representatives from 65-plus employers that are hiring for more than 1,500 positions at this year’s Part-time Job Fair, hosted by the University Career Center. Scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center, this job fair will connect students with employers with part-time, temporary, seasonal and full-time non-degreed jobs.

Charlotte-area employers Armstrong Transport Group, Charlotte Country Club, Exit Strategy, Eye Level Learning Center, Freedom Schools Partners, Hornets Sports and Entertainment, Mondelez International, Red Ventures, the U.S. National Whitewater Center and others are set to attend.

In addition to many opportunities in retail, customer service, sales, tutoring and administration, students can find positions as laboratory assistants, camp coordinators, service technicians, department leads, game masters, tax preparers and system administrators.

Students are encouraged to make the most of the event by bringing multiple copies of their resume, wearing business casual clothing (such as slacks and a collared shirt), and researching employers ahead of time.

The Part-time Job Fair will be held concurrently with WCIDWAMI Day (formerly Majors Day), an annual event providing students an opportunity to explore their interest, connect with faculty and staff from all departments and meet with academic and career advisors.  Both events are free and open to all UNC Charlotte students.

WCIDWAMI Day, named after the Career Center’s popular “What Can I Do with a Major In?” resource, provides opportunities for students to explore their interests, majors and careers all in one place.

Students who attend WCIDWAMI Day, being held from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Oct. 13, in the SAC, have the opportunity to go through a hands-on process of assessing their interests, identifying related majors and exploring career options.  The event brings together faculty and staff from all of UNC Charlotte’s academic departments, so students can learn about all of the majors and minors that the University has to offer.  Career and academic advisors will be available to meet individually with students at the event.
