The Lee College of Engineering’s Lebra Nance was one of 16 state employees presented the 2016 Governor’s Awards for Excellence. The honor was bestowed Tuesday, Sept. 27, during a recognition event hosted by the N.C. Office of State Human Resources and sponsored by the State Employees’ Credit Union.

Nance, a student services specialist in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science, was recognized in the category of Outstanding State Government Service. In March 2016, she was one of four staff members honored as UNC Charlotte’s Employee of the Year.

According to nomination materials, Nance has made a habit of contributing beyond the confines of her job requirements and exceeding the expectations of her supervisors. “In helping students, Nance goes out of her way to tailor her work to fit the needs of each individual student. One of Nance’s former students has commented that Nance helped him every step of the way as he juggled the responsibilities of a mechanical engineering program alongside the rigors of being in ROTC.”

N.C. Gov. Pat McCrory stated, “I am so proud to recognize these state employees for their exceptional efforts. They’ve added to the effectiveness, efficiency and responsiveness of state government and contributed to their communities. They’ve improved the way routine tasks are performed, provided better service, and saved the state and taxpayers money. Some of the honorees even saved lives.”
