Register to participate in Chancellor’s Fishing Derby

Wednesday, October 5, 2016

Space is still available for faculty and staff members and their guests to register for the inaugural Chancellor’s Fishing Derby, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8.

Fishing, fun, prizes, refreshments and T-shirts will be part of this family-friendly event, being held at Hechenbleikner Lake.

The UNC Charlotte Bass Fishing Club is hosting this derby; University employees, along with their family members/guests, are eligible. For this catch-and-release derby, participants can compete in any or all of the three fishing sessions between 8:30 and 11:15 a.m. Each session lasts 45 minutes, and the cost is $8 per person per session. Check-in begins at 8 a.m.

Prizes will be awarded in each session for the highest number of fish, heaviest largemouth bass and youngest participant to catch a fish.

Proceeds from the contest will benefit the UNC Charlotte Bass Fishing Club that has partnered with Riley’s Catch, Bass Pro Shops and UNC Charlotte Chancellor Philip L. Dubois to present the derby.

Winners from each session of the Oct. 8 derby will choose from Chancellor’s Box seats to a UNC Charlotte basketball or football game or a gift card from Barnes & Noble at UNC Charlotte.

Children participating in the derby will compete for fishermen starter kits courtesy of Bass Pro Shops.

Members of UNC Charlotte’s Bass Fishing Club will be on site offering educational sessions and equipment as needed.

The Recreational Services and Auxiliary Services departments are facilitating the event.
