The Giving Green Campaign is more than an effort to solicit funds for the Arts & Science Council, State Employees Combined Campaign or the UNC Charlotte Foundation. It also provides faculty and staff members the chance to volunteer in support of various community nonprofit organizations.

Between Monday, Oct. 10, and Friday, Oct. 14, the Giving Green team has organized 10 volunteer opportunities, including two on-campus activities.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Oct. 10, eight volunteers can help out at Safe Alliance to prepare and serve lunch for families living in the shelter. In the afternoon, from 1:30 to 3 p.m., 15 volunteers are needed to assemble toiletry kits for the Crisis Assistance Ministry.

On Oct. 11, from 1 to 4 p.m., 20 volunteers will assist the Second Harvest Food Bank to sort food donations and prep donation boxes for delivery to locations in the community. Also, 20 volunteers will be needed to help organize and sort donations for the free store at the Crisis Assistance Ministry between 2:30 and 4 p.m.

Between 8 and 11 a.m., Oct. 12, eight volunteers can aid the Humane Society of Charlotte; from 9 a.m. to noon, the Carolina Raptor Center is seeking 20 volunteers to assist with landscaping and trail clearance/maintenance.

From 9 to 11 a.m., Oct. 13, 20 volunteers are needed on campus to assemble snack packs for students who attend various after-school programs. In the afternoon, from 3 to 5 p.m., 20 volunteers are needed at the Marsh Road Boys and Girls Club to assist children with homework and/or play games.

On Oct. 14, between 8 and 11 a.m., eight volunteers will help out at the Humane Society of Charlotte, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., eight volunteers are sought to assist at the Safe Alliance to prepare and serve lunch to families living in the shelter.

Community service leave, a benefit provided to state employees, can be used for these volunteer opportunities.

More information, including details on how to register to volunteer, is on the Giving Green website.

The Giving Green Campaign is UNC Charlotte’s unified, centralized, campus-wide effort to solicit financial support for the Arts & Science Council (ASC), the nearly 1,000 charities approved for inclusion in the State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC) and the UNC Charlotte Foundation.
