Sytsma named sustainability coordinator

Tyler Sytsma recently joined UNC Charlotte as the University sustainability coordinator. A member of the Facilities Management Department, Sytsma will handle various projects that involve offices/departments across campus.

Sytsma will be responsible for communicating about sustainability-related initiatives and will coordinate various related events, such as campus cleanups, Earth Week, the Transportation Fair and curriculum development workshops. In addition, he will support student organizations in sustainability-related project management and contribute to assessments of campus sustainability efforts.

A Marine Corps infantry veteran who served two tours in Iraq, Sytsma completed bachelor’s degrees in English and sustainability from Arizona State University. He also obtained an Executive Master of Sustainability Leadership from ASU. Prior to UNC Charlotte, Sytsma was director of global affairs at a Minneapolis-based consulting firm, where he focused on bringing technologies to developing countries with the goal of increasing sustainable living opportunities.
