Gary Chapman, one of the world’s leading Christian marriage counselors, will discuss the keys to successful relationships in the talk “The Five Love Languages” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 17, in Cone University Center, McKnight Hall. The Office of Religious and Spiritual Life is sponsoring this free, public event. A book signing will follow the talk in the Cone Center, Lucas Room.
Chapman has authored more than 30 books and serves as associate senior pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. “The Five Love Languages” is one of Chapman’s most popular books; it has been published in 50 languages since its release in 1995 and has sold more than 10 million copies. He also hosts the nationally syndicated radio program “A Love Language Minute” and the Saturday morning program “Building Relationships with Dr. Gary Chapman” that airs on more than 400 stations.
According to event organizers, attendees of Chapman’s talk will learn the five love languages, how to discover one’s own primary love language and how to discover the love language of another person. Understanding and expressing love in the right language can help to enhance all relationships.
A graduate of Moody Bible Institute, Chapman bachelor’s and master’s degrees in anthropology from Wheaton College and Wake Forest University, respectively. He completed M.R.E. and Ph.D. degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and did postgraduate work at UNC Chapel Hill and Duke University.
