University employees deliver record-setting results for Giving Green

UNC Charlotte’s Hollywood-inspired Giving Green Campaign drew rave reviews from generous faculty and staff members. The result was an epic total of $194,698 in one-time gifts and payroll-deductible pledges to benefit the Arts & Science Council, the State Employees Combined Campaign and the UNC Charlotte Foundation.

Chancellor Philip L. Dubois expressed his appreciation to faculty and staff members who made a financial contribution during a special Giving Green “After Party” in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center Wednesday, Nov. 18.

Dubois noted that while monetary support is significant, even more important is the volunteer service UNC Charlotte employees render during the Giving Green Campaign. He added that the University often asks the community for support, so it is significant that the public sees UNC Charlotte employees giving back to the community.

Malin Pereira, executive director of the Honors College, and Jim Hoppa, associate vice chancellor for Student Union, Activities and Recreation, served as the 2015 Giving Green Campaign co-chairs. Beyond an increase in overall donations from 2014, this year’s campaign resulted in more donors; 745 employees participated, a 9 percent gain. Also, nearly 100 faculty and staff members helped eight community organizations during the Giving Green volunteer opportunities. Their efforts saved the nonprofits about $3,700 in labor costs.

Stacie Young, director of annual giving in the Division of University Advancement, spearheads the Giving Green Campaign; she coordinates advancement staff and works with volunteer Giving Green Campaign champions who are employees at the division and college level to generate awareness of this yearly drive. Giving Green is the University’s centralized, unified, campus-wide workplace giving program.
