UNC Charlotte faculty members enter Halton Arena for the formal ceremony to welcome new students as part of the Day of Convocation Monday, Aug. 24.

Designed as a shared experience for incoming freshmen and transfers, “Day 1” or Day of Convocation was a campus-wide initiative to formally induct these new students into the UNC Charlotte academic community.

Prior to the 11 a.m. ceremony, students gathered at their colleges for welcome remarks from their respective deans prior to proceeding to Halton Arena.

Chancellor Philip L. Dubois delivered remarks outlining the University mission, and Mike Wilson, alumnus, former SGA president and current member of the Board of Trustees, addressed the legacy of founder Bonnie Cone. Greg Starrett, professor of anthropology, spoke, along with Provost Joan Lorden and SGA President Mitch Daratony.

After lunch, the colleges held information sessions, tours and other activities for students.
