Several hundred employees turned out Tuesday, Oct. 9, for this year’s annual Staff Council Fall Festival, held at the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

Participants enjoyed free food, drinks, music and give-aways at the event. They also donated a large selection of clothes, baby items, toiletries, a $100 gift card and other supplies to the Florence Crittenton Services of North Carolina. Each year, the Staff Council selects a community organization to support through the festival.

Festival attendees brought donations in support of Crittenton Services.

“This year’s event was a great success, despite the weather,” said organizing co-chairs Celeste Corpening and Lolita Rowe. “We had awesome participation in all the contests and games. The Fall Festival has truly become a tradition at the University, and the Staff Council looks forward to planning the 2013 festival.”

As part of the event, employees competed in a bake-off, dance contest and photography competition.

Tiffany McAfee, extended academic programs, took first place in the baking contest for her pumpkin spice cupcakes. Atkins Library’s Lolita Rowe (white chocolate cranberry cookies) and Allison Bradley (apple pie) came in second and third, respectively.

Sarah Duncan and Brandon Brown from facilities management placed first and second in the dance competition.

The photography contest accepted entries in three categories: fall, campus and miscellaneous. Denise Dwight-Smith from the Career Center won the fall category, with Celeste Corpening and Tatiana Beregovski, ITS, taking second and third.

In the campus category, Leslie Robinson from the Student Health Center took top honors. In the miscellaneous or “catch all” category, Neil Talley, student affairs, won first place. Micki Crowder from the College of Education placed second; third prize went to Patrick Jones from the Department of Geography and Earth Science.

Representatives from a number of campus and community organizations, such as the Metro Credit Union at UNC Charlotte, State Employees Association of North Carolina, Costco, 49ers athletics, Venture Program, Police and Public Safety, were on hand to provide information to Fall Festival attendees.
