Famed Second City bringing comedy to UNC Charlotte

Monday, September 17, 2012

Chicago’s legendary sketch comedy theatre Second City: Laughing Matters will perform at 7:00 PM, Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Student Union. The event will feature some of the best sketches, songs and improvisations from the Second City’s 52-year history.

With economic uncertainty, political gridlock and a dearth of Kardashians clogging up televisions, Second City: Laughing Matters will put comedy first in a wickedly funny revue that skewers and celebrates in equal doses.  Second City has been the training ground for a host of comics, including John Belushi, Mike Myers, Gilda Radner, Tina Fey, Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert.

The Second City style is one of simplicity - six actors, a few chairs and some of the most inventive comedy in the nation. The ensemble creates slice-of-life environment, lampooning aspects of modern lives—political, social and cultural. Performances are part well-rehearsed sketches, part informally structured improve and part audience participatory theater.
