Seven-story CRI Deck opens

Tuesday, September 4, 2012

The Charlotte Research Institute Parking Deck is now open, providing seven stories of spaces for faculty, staff and students.

According to parking and transportation officials, the CRI Deck is the largest on campus. It has the capacity to hold 1,347 vehicles.

Currently, parking is limited to faculty/staff and commuters. When networking infrastructure is complete, visitor parking will be added. A pay-on-foot station will collect visitor parking fees.

Resident permits will not be allowed in CRI deck before 6 p.m. The RFID chip on "R" permits will lift the CRI Deck gates after 6 p.m. Night permits will open CRI deck gates at 3 p.m.

The deck has three entry/exit points. White painted ceilings and induction lighting will provide high visibility on every level, and there are two elevators in the structure. Twenty bike lockers have been installed, noted parking officials, adding more details on accessing the lockers is forthcoming.

LS3P Associations LLP designed the deck with structural and parking engineering by Carl Walker Inc.; J.E. Dunn Construction was the general contractor.
