The Department of Music Faculty and Friends Concert Series kicks off the new semester with a program on Monday, Jan. 23, featuring new oboe professor Elizabeth Sullivan and guests Rebecca Johnson (flute) and Cara Chowning (piano). Performing as Trio Village, they will present a wide range of music, from an 18th century trio sonata by Johann Joachim Quantz to Miguel del Águila’s passionate “Seduction Dance.”

Prior to joining UNC Charlotte, Sullivan was the oboe instructor at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston and a dedicated member of the Illinois musical community, performing with ensembles such as the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Champaign Urbana Symphony Orchestra, Prairie Ensemble and Danville Symphony Orchestra. She received a Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music from the University of Illinois.

Johnson has been on the faculty of Eastern Illinois University since 2007 and is a member of the chamber orchestra, Sinfonia da Camera. Chowning has served on the accompanying faculties of the Cleveland Institute of Music and the American Institute of Music Studies in Graz, Austria, as well as the faculties of Simpson College, Oklahoma City University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. in Rowe Recital Hall. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $8 for UNC Charlotte faculty, staff, alumni and all students.
