Register for mass CPR training sessions

Event Date:
October 25, 2016 - 9:30 AM
Location:
Barnhardt Student Activity Center

On Tuesday, Oct. 25, the Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHS) will host a mass training in the use of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Classes will be in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center, with three sessions offered at 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Registration is required as space is limited.

October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month, and this is the third year the Environmental Health and Safety Office has partnered with Mecklenburg EMS Agency (MEDIC) to promote mass CPR training to increase bystander medical awareness and to prepare individuals to assist those who may experience sudden cardiac arrest.

MEDIC paramedics and Charlotte Fire Department personnel will teach proper hand placement and how to perform compressions on a CPR manikin. In addition to the hands-only CPR training, they will review the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). The University has multiple AEDs located across campus, and this is a great opportunity to learn their use in the case of an emergency.

Sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere and at any time.  Every minute proper CPR is delayed, a victim’s chance of survival decreases by 10 percent.  This combined training is intended to increase the number of people on campus who know how to save a life in the event of a cardiac arrest. Participants will learn the importance of quick action and will have the opportunity to ask questions.

This training is being held in conjunction with the annual Benefits Fair.  For more information, contact Angela Allen or Lamont Baldwin at 704-687-1111 or email ehsoffice@uncc.edu.
