The Projective Eye Gallery at UNC Charlotte Center City will present “Inquiry to Practice: Answering the Questions” from Thursday, Aug. 4 through Saturday, Sept. 3. An opening reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Aug. 4.

Under the leadership of Delane Ingalls Vanada, assistant professor of art education, a group of K-12 art teachers from Charlotte-area schools came together to ask questions about the state of education today and to approach and stimulate their own creative work as living inquiry. These educators made the conscious choice to remain practicing artists. With “Inquiry to Practice: Answering the Questions,” the College of Arts + Architecture/Projective Eye Gallery provides a haven for them to express their own creativity, outside of the borders of the classroom.

These artist/educators will present work in multiple disciplines, asking many questions: Is there beauty in imperfection? What is the hidden psychology behind the smile of today’s children? Does magic lie between categorization? Why are children still left behind? What are the losses when respect and discipline are not taught at home? Does testing lead to learning? Is knowledge at the heart of education? How can teachers be powerful agents of change by connecting theory to practice?
