Deadline to submit interest form for ‘Dismantling Racism’

As part of continued efforts to build a diverse and inclusive campus community, the Council on University Community, in collaboration with Race Matters for Juvenile Justice, will host “Dismantling Racism” on Thursday and Friday, April 27-28, at UNC Charlotte.

 This workshop will provide an opportunity for increased awareness and shared understanding of race and disparity on our campus, in the greater community.

“Dismantling Racism” is an intensive two-day process facilitated by multiracial organizers/trainers to approximately 40 community leaders/members each session. The workshop is designed to assist professionals, leaders, community members and youth understand how racial inequities affect the community and ways to begin eliminating disproportionality and disparities within society. The training provides:

  • Definitions and a shared foundational vocabulary
  • An examination of historical factors that have contributed to present-day race and racism
  • Data which highlight disparities for individuals of color across systems/institutions
  • A power analysis and a race analysis
  • Professional awareness and understanding of one's own connection to systemic racism and its community impact
  • Personal reflection on one's own knowledge, values/beliefs, and skills and position along a racial understanding continuum
  • Facilitated community dialogue with strategies for how to be more effective in your work with constituencies, agencies, families, and communities

Space is limited. Participants must commit to attending both days. To be considered for participation, complete the Dismantling Racism Interest Form no later than Friday, March 31.
