Registration for the Botanical Gardens 50th Anniversary Symposium has been extended to Monday, Oct. 3.

Attendees for this daylong event, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8, will gain an intoxicating perspective on the leaves, bark, seeds, roots, flowers and fruit imbibed around the world when Amy Stewart, best-selling author of “The Drunken Botanist: The Plants That Create the World’s Great Drinks,” delivers the keynote address.

Also, symposium participants will learn easy-to-remember garden design strategies for working with such elements as form, texture and color, during a talk by Steve Aitken, editor of Fine Gardening magazine. UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens Director Emeritus Larry Mellichamp will trace the history of plants, people and events of the gardens, and Paula Gross, assistant director of the Botanical Gardens, will talk about her favorite native plants for piedmont gardens. Lunch and a tour of the Botanical Gardens are included.

The symposium is open to the public; pre-registration is required. Register online or call 704-687-0721.
