University Convocation, which traditionally marks the start of the academic year, will begin at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 17, in Cone University Center, McKnight Hall. This annual event is an opportunity for the campus community to learn more about the University’s short- and long-term goals and plans.
Preceding University Convocation, there will be a reception for the campus community at 8:30 a.m. in the Lucas Room.
Speakers will include the student body president and chair of the Staff Council. The faculty president will present the faculty agenda for 2017-18, and there will be remarks from Chancellor Philip L. Dubois and Provost Joan Lorden.
Also, new members of the faculty and professional staff will be welcomed, and there will be recognition of faculty members granted permanent tenure and those who will be starting their 25th year of service to the University. The newest recipient of the Bonnie E. Cone Early-Career Professor in Teaching will be named, too.
